The Heart Behind Graceful Beginnings

Graceful Beginnings was created from a simple but deeply rooted belief: no woman should walk through pregnancy or birth feeling alone, unheard, or afraid.

As a birth doula, my mission is to support mamas who long for a peaceful, physiological, grace-filled birth. I’m here to offer steady presence, evidence-based guidance, heartfelt encouragement, and faith-led support, so you can step into motherhood feeling calm, confident, and deeply held.

Whether you’re dreaming of a grounded, intuitive birth, carrying tender places from past hurt, or simply longing for someone who truly sees you and supports you through it all — you have a place here

Here’s to support, advocacy, prayer, grace… and the beautiful beginnings that follow.
I would be honored to be part of your story.

What makes my support different?

Newborn and Parent

I’m a praying Christian mama who believes deeply in how God designed birth.

Yes—physiological birth is powerful, possible, and beautiful.

But I also know things don’t always go the way we hoped, and that’s exactly where grace shows up. We all need it—during birth, during pregnancy, and honestly, in every season of motherhood.

I bring:

• Prayer when you feel overwhelmed

• Advocacy when you need a voice in the room

• Grace when plans shift

• Peace when anxiety sneaks in

• Humour because birth is sacred… but we’re still allowed to laugh

• Support you can actually lean on—not the “you’re fine, mama” kind, but real, steady care

Birth doesn’t have to feel scary or lonely.

Not for you. Not this time.

Hello & Welcome

About me:

My name is Donna and I am just a wife and mother who believes that God designed women to birth their own babies.

I didn’t grow up dreaming of becoming a doula—honestly, I don’t think I even knew what a doula was until after I had kids. When I was pregnant with my first, I was just trying to figure things out like everyone else. After seeing my family doctor, I watched The Business of Being Born, switched to midwifery care, and hoped birth could be something calmer than the dramatic TV version we all grew up with. My husband and I took a birth class, and that was about it.

I was fortunate to have a supportive husband and a midwifery team who trusted the birth process. My first three births were fairly smooth vaginal deliveries, but it was my fourth—an unexpected C-section—that made me realize just how crucial truly supportive care is.

My midwife came in on her vacation just to be there. She checked in on me throughout my pregnancy, advocated when things felt uncertain, and pushed for the extra ultrasounds that diagnosed vasa previa. Her presence made a hard situation feel supported instead of overwhelming, and that stuck with me.

After that birth, I realized I wanted to support women through their own births the way I had been supported—whether their plans unfold smoothly or take a different turn. I considered becoming a midwife, but in Ontario the path is competitive and very hospital-centered, and I knew that wasn’t quite right for me. Doula work, though? That felt like a natural fit… unless starting an Ina-May-Farm-style birth sanctuary ever becomes an option.

So over time, I read the books I wish I’d had before my first baby, listened to podcasts, asked questions, and learned from other birth workers. Bit by bit, I found my way into this work.

Now I offer the kind of support that’s steady, practical, and faith-led—care that helps women feel seen, informed, and genuinely supported through pregnancy and birth. I’m here to serve you with grounded support and evidence-based information so you can make the decisions that feel right for your family.

Reviews

Donna has been supporting and caring for families for years and here is what they have to say...

Sandi -

"While I was in delivery she was incredibly responsive to messages when I reached out and made sure to check in regularly on top of that. She provided encouragement. She provided clear answers to questions... She helped to provide a calm among the chaos at times of my induction. I went in saying natural like my first and she was encouraging. I switched to an epidural after a long and her level of support never changed."

Annelisa -

"Donna is an absolute wealth of knowledge. To have... knowledge for actual physiological, natural birth to help in pregnancy and delivery is so rare these days."

Traci -

"Donna is not only a fabulous and easy to talk to lady, but she has such a passion and wealth of knowledge for all things birth related. She is passionate about helping and advocating to pregnant and new moms, while they navigate through their personal birth and post partum experience. I highly recommend Donna at Graceful Beginnings as your personal Doula."
